This art quilt "Journey" features a black fabric mosaic on a red background. The fabric mosaic is made of small pieces of black, gray, and brown fabric and some gold thread covered with netting and stitched down. Four red triangle "flying geese" are moving toward the lower right corner and are attached to the quilt with a red silk ribbon in the middle of each triangle so the edges are left loose and away from the background. Gold glass beads are hand sewn on top.
The background is made of maroon red squares layered on top of each other with raw edges exposed, and thin yellow edges. On the left side of the quilt three triangle "flying geese" are pointed up and are also attached to the quilt with a red silk ribbon in the middle again with their edges left loose. Below the black triangle is a piece of dark purple/brown taffeta that is attached in the middle but left loose at the top and bottom.
It is made of commercial and batik cotton fabrics and is fused raw-edge applique with black thread that was machine free-motion quilted which echoes the shape of the black fabric mosaic with the quilting lines 1/4" apart. It has machine-couched black yarn that appear to be ripples and spread out the further away they are from the black fabric mosaic. It has a knife-edge binding and comes with a hanging sleeve and rod, ready to hang on a nail.
